Khem Ma Rat Tourism Community Enterprise
Khem Ma Rat Tourism Community Enterprise
Ubon Ratchathani
Beat the heat with Java plum juice, a local plant found in abundance around these parts of Northeast Thailand. Upon arrival, you’ll have the chance to pay homage at Wat Pho, one of the most spectacular temples in the region. Learn about the legend of the Great Naga; try your hand at weaving the local “Madmee” style clothes; and learn how to make some silky-smooth fragrant Java plum soap. After the sun goes down, enjoy the still water-side atmosphere as you take a stroll along the riverside road. Immerse yourself in the culture with traditional clothes and have dinner while enjoying local “Tang Wai” and “Paslop” dances – you can even join in with the dancing crowd! This community tourism project is comprised of three sub-districts, namely Khem Ma Rat, Nawaeng and Jiad. Here, there you’ll find an eclectic mix of crafts and traditional lifestyle.
Culture and Local Heritage
Isaan art and culture are both unique aspects of the traditions here, which is represented through “Madmee” clothes, as well as the local cuisine and cultural performances.
The local wisdom includes cotton plantation, thread-weaving, Madmee clothes making and indigo dyeing, particularly, Khem Ma Rat’s unique “Nak Noi” pattern.
